MAKE MOVES 10 feat. Pete Muller -- singer, songwriter, surfer, quantitative hedge fund legend (what?), crossword puzzle creator, trail runner, poker player... uhhh is there anything this guy can't do?  Pete talks about his newest album Two Truths and a Lie, solving problems from a place of relaxation, busking in the subway, running a hedge fund, philanthropy, creating passion fueled virtuous cycles of motivation and dedication, and some helpful advice he once got "just follow the energy."  This is a riveting episode that's full of provocative tidbits from a very unique guy.

With Pete's permission, this episode features a bit of the tune Deeper off of his recent album Two Truths and a Lie

Jason Verlinde provides an interesting perspective on chasing the things he loves.  He is the publisher of Fretboard Journal, a magazine he started with passion.  Fretboard Journal is a sophisticated and beautiful publication geared toward die-hard fans of all-things-guitar.  Jason talks about leaving a good career to start a magazine from the ground up, risks and sacrifices, building and being part of a community, and he sheds a little light on what it is like to be a father and husband while taking the road less traveled.

With permission of Ropedope-Sur Records, this episode features a bit of the tune En La Noche from Loli Molina's album Rubi.

Alex Sheshunoff is a disarmingly funny, Faulkner Society award winning writer who has been featured in Slate, National Geographic Adventure, and Marketplace on NPR.  In this episode, he talks with John about A Beginner's Guide to Paradise, his memoir (from Penguin Random House).  He explains the process of transitioning out of the wildly successful NY-based start-up whiz kid life that he didn't want into the role of adventurer and author.  He talks us through some of the things that make him human: curiosity, risk, love, mischief, kids, and questions that don't have answers.

With permission of Ropeadope Records, this episode features a bit of Tacuma Bradely's Unity Band song Let it Ride off the album Joint Effort.

Tilden Yamamoto, mastermind behind Tildenshop, talks with John about his unique approach to fashion design, his commitment to old-world craftsmanship, and his tech savvy business model.  He designs and sews all of his clothes - himself! - on an old fashioned single needle sewing machine, but he has a modern global mindset and international distribution through uses of technology like Instagram.  Tilden is doing something that nobody else is doing, and by learning about who he is, his motivations become clear.  Impeccable construction.  Hard to source fabrics.  Clothing as art?  Yep.  Pretty much, both in process and product.
